Somnang Yon is 12 years old. He is from Bousrongkat village, Prek eng commune, Kansvay district, Phnom Penh. His father died of an illness. His mother died two years after his father of HIV. Somnang moved to live with his grandfather who is very old and poor. After awhile, his grandfather couldn’t provide for him and he had no food to eat. Almost everyday he had to beg the monk for food to feed his empty stomach and brought some leftover food from the pagoda for his grandfather to eat. His grandfather decided to bring Somnang to the Vista/Asia's Hope orphan home because he wanted him to have better life. Now Somnang has a chance to go to school which was his parents dream. He is very happy and enjoys living in the orphan home very much. The orphanage director, Savong told him about Jesus and he now believes in Him.
Monny Pen is six years old. She is from Bongsalang village, Reseykav Kan, Phnom Penh. Her father died from too much drink. He had an argument with a group of men and was killed outside a friends home. Her mother died from an unknown illness. She went to live with neighbors, but her life was difficult. The neighbors used her as a servant. They wanted her to ask for money from tourists along the street or in the market. She had to give them money everyday. If she was sick and could not beg, the neighbor’s wife would punish her. Some people had pity on her and brought her to Vista/Asia's Hope orphanage. Now she is happy and has a lot of friends to play with. She has good food to eat and new mothers who love her. Savong, the orphan home director told her about Jesus and she accepted Him into her heart.
Yohan Raksmey is five years old. He is from Toul Rmpel village, Tachan district, Komponglar commune, Svyreng province. Yohan never knew his father. His mother was raped by a Thai man at the border of Thailand when she went to find a job there and then she became pregnant. She was very angry. Yohan never received comfort from his mother. She left him with his grandfather and didn't return. No one knows where she went. Yohan does not remember his mother's face. His grandparents are very old and cannot afford to keep him so his grandfather took him to the Vista/Asia's Hope orphan home.
Sreyroth Rin is six years old. She is from Prek Em village, Mongrersey commune, Monkoul district, Battambang province. Her father was always drunk and had no time to take care of her or her siblings. She has one brother and one sister who are still at home. Sreyroth came to live at the Vista/Asia's Hope orphanage by herself. Her mother died in an accident when she was one year old. Her father is never home, so the neighbor told the leader of the village and then took her to the orphanage. Sreyroth is happy to live in a new place and have good food. She is happy to go to school and get to know new friends there. She believes in Jesus.
Longdich Ron is 12 years old. She is a sister to Kimhou Ron. Longdich is from Prek Em village, Mongrersey commune, Monkoul district, Battambang province. Her father went to find a job in Thailand and never returned. No one knows where he is now. Life without her father was very difficult. Two months after her mother gave birth to her youngest sister, her mother became crippled. She was unable to move and was bedridden. She wasn't able to take care of her children anymore so she gave Longdich and her sister to the Vista/Asia's Hope orphanage. Longdich likes living in the orphan home but she sometimes misses her mother very much. She loves her new friends and new mothers in the orphanage. She is happy that she gets to go to school by van every morning.
Kimhou Ron is three years old. She has one sister, Longdich Ron, and they live together at the Vista/Asia's Hope orphan home. Kimhou is from the Prek Em village, Mongrersey commune, Monkoul district, Battambang province. At first Kimhou cried every night and wanted to go home. Now she is happy and enjoys living at the orphanage. She isn't in school yet, but will be next year.
