Victory

Thought I would start off this post with a couple of little things that I am thankful for today...

One is that a friend told me about a restaurant here in Phnom Penh that I wanted to try. So after church this morning, I got out my map and took a walk to find Cafe Fresco. So glad that I did. It's a little sandwich place, and, I'm telling you, if you sit inside, it's like you are sitting in some Panera-like shop in the states. I've been absolutely craving a turkey sandwich. And, well...they didn't have turkey. But I did get to order...foccacia bread, chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, olives, and a little honey mustard...it was divine! A little gift for me.

The other thing I am thankful for today is a light switch. You see, I was going out the back door to get my laundry out of the washer after it had already gotten dark. My shoes were sitting by the door, and I was just about to put my feet in them when a thought hit me..."turn on the light." So glad I did. When the light came on, I saw a big, fat cockroach sitting right in my shoe. Ugh! Sorry...I don't have a picture of that.

But I do have more pics of the kids to share. Wednesday the 7th of this past week was Victory Day here in Cambodia. Victory of the Khmer Rouge. If you don't know who the Khmer Rouge are...well, you obviously haven't been following my blog for very long. You can check out the links on the left-hand side to other posts. The Khmer Rouge took over the country in 1975, and, over the next four years, basically destroyed the country while committing genocide of the Cambodian people. Victory Day is a celebration of the end of that regime in 1979.

So, on that day, I went out to the school where all the kids had gathered for a meal. The littler kids were playing while the older kids and staff were preparing the meal. It was quite an operation...and so fun to watch. Each person had a job to do to put together this noodle soup. Lots of chopping and boiling and cleaning. It was another one of those surreal moments for me during which I felt completely blessed that I got to witness it and take part. Here are a few shots of the cooks:)

I did not actually get to stay long enough to sample the soup. But I did get to hang out with the kids and have some fun. I will never get tired of being greeted by a mass of children whenever I arrive...giving out multiple hugs and hearing, "Hello, mommy!" (I think they have all finally learned that it's not daddy. English can be tricky at times!)

Gimme a bite of that sandwich!

I can't believe my sister is going to spend the week with you and your babies - less than a month away! I'm SO excited for you and the girls that are going. I pray about it constantly.
