The Little Things

Today, I was thinking through some of the little things that have been making me happy lately. There is lots that gives me joy here, but I was starting to make a list in my head. So, here goes....

• I have been shown several small shops here in Phnom Penh that stock imported products. At times, you can even find name-brand products. I say at times, because you may find something one month and then not again for a while. I was able to find shredded cheese...4 different types of cheese!

• I used my last can of refried beans to make chicken burritos this week. And I got to share them with a friend. Refried beans are unfortunately out of season, so I don't know when I will get them again. It's good to share the wealth:)

• Last week, I got a toaster. Toast makes me happy.

• When I left for class today, the power was out. When I got back after riding my bike in 100 degree weather, the power was back on. So thankful for AC and perfect timing!

• The landlord at my apartment complex got two very cute little puppies yesterday. There's no way not to be happy when you come home to them.

• I was able to tell the moto driver to take me to the store, wait for me to buy what I needed, and then take me home...all in Khmer. And he understood me.

• It's not supposed to be raining this month, but it's rained every day this week. That means it gets cooled off at night.

• I took up swimming for exercise as part of my attempt to get healthy and stay healthy. The pool after a hot day is nice!

• My kitchen is cockroach-free.

• I have a screen in my window so that I can get a breeze without getting the bugs.

I could keep going. Sometimes, it's just good to be reminded about just how blessed I truly am. Even in the little things.
