Very early on Thursday...12:00am - From the Bangkok airport - We arrived in Bangkok at 9:00pm on Wednesday after a short flight from Chiang Mai. The airport is like going to Polaris Mall. There are shops and restaurants galore! We did not even reach the end of it before we turned around to go back to our gate. We did however take the time to stop at Burger King and Dairy Queen to get our American food fixes.
We have enjoyed being in Asia and experiencing Asian culture and cuisine but are looking forward to getting back to the US. Jen can't wait to talk to friends, sleep in her own bed, brush her teeth using tap water from the sink, and eat chocolate cake. Chipper is looking forward to seeing Susan, seeing Susan, seeing Susan, seeing friends, and eating pizza with Susan and friends at Minico's in Westerville.
The last night in Thailand began at the orphanage where we had to say goodbye to the children. One of the team members talked about the hugs that the kids give - she said they were different in that they did not want to let go. This was especially true as we tried to say goodbye. Kids of all ages clung to us, trying to get every last moment with us that they could. We look forward to sharing more pictures of the children and our experience in the near future. You'll get more of an idea of how precious these children are.
After our goodbyes, we went to dinner at an authentic Thai dinner theater show restaurant with traditional Thai dances and music. We sat Tatami style - which means we sat on the floor and our feet were down in a hole below the table. We had to leave our shoes at the door - it was somewhat Japanese style. We were served community bowls of unlimited food, including rice and noodles, meats, and vegetables. It was delicious. And some things were very hot!!
Most of the team left this morning. But our flight was not until the evening, so we got to spend the day shopping at a day market in historic Chiang Mai. (By the way, the orphanage is really in the town of Doi Saket, which is about 20 minutes northeast of Chiang Mai. Doi means mountain. It really was beautiful to be surrounded by the mountains. We hope those pictures can convey that Asian vista:)
The Market is where the local Thai people do their shopping. The market has several floors and it reminded Chipper of the North Market in the Short North...only 10 times larger...and with more unusual smells. (We didn't have our camera ready to take the picture of the two pigs' heads on the counter.)
We went back to the guest house, packed, and made our way to the airport. We have several flights and layovers ahead of us and will be back in Columbus early Friday morning. It will be good to be home.

Matthew 5:16 Christ, in talking to His disciples: "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." You both have made many sacrifices to let "your light" shine in another part of our world and giving glory to God. Thank you and may God richly bless both of you......Bob & Ann
Welcome back Jen and Chipper.
Look forward to seeing you at church
