Eggs roasting on the grill.
After dinner, we roasted marshmallows.
The following day was the last day for the Vista ladies to be in Cambodia. They started off at the genocide museum, Toul Sleng. During the time of the Khmer Rouge, the regime took over the high school and turned it into a place of torture. Men, women, and children were confined there. The regime was systematic in that they numbered each prisoner and took pictures of them before sending them to the killing fields to be executed. The high school stands as it did during that time. Rows upon rows of black and white photos of those who were killed are displayed.
Only four people survived the prison. The team had the once-in-a-lifetime experience of meeting one of those survivors. He happened to be there at the same time, and they were able to talk with him and ask him questions through an interpreter. He shared what it was like at the prison and showed them his cell. It was an incredibly emotional time for them.
That afternoon, they then went back out to the school and orphanage. Morgan was able to bless the kids by cutting some hair. The girls looked beautiful. We also got to play more volleyball with the kids.
Rebekah looks on as Cheata gets a haircut.
I just read online that the ladies are safely back home. So thankful for all your prayers for them. It was wonderful to be able to share this experience with them and to introduce them to our children. I know they have many memories to bring back to you...and hopefully more of you will be able to come with the teams in June (hint, hint)!
