Random Thoughts

All the westerners have left the guest house. So in this quiet moment, thought I would share my random thoughts this evening...

• The surreal feeling of living in a foreign country halfway around the world never goes away.

• In case you're wondering, it's never too late to honk your horn outside the house in Cambodia. Or play your music, or yell to your spouse, or...

• Oishi green tea with lemon is the drink of choice. Wondering how I can override the liquid limits and bring a supply back to the states with me.

• Geckos can be less than an inch long. And move really fast. And fit under doors. I really don't like being that close with nature.

• So far, Cafe Yejj ranks number one for the best brownies in Phnom Penh. I think they may be the only ones to use sugar.

• Thankful for the internet, Skype, and email...but nothing beats visits from friends.

• I still have the Christmas tablecloth on the kitchen table. It's probably time to change that.

• Everybody has a story.

• There's a chocolate shop on street 240 that I didn't know existed until yesterday. That's my new favorite street.

• I'm excited that I can actually find street 240. But then, chocolate has always been a strong motivator for me.

• Just checked, and yes...John left his wife's gift of chocolate in the fridge. I'm thinking it's not going to last till he comes back here in August.

• Two good friends arrive here in 21 days 10 hours and 58 minutes. But I'm not counting.

• So glad that others have been able to meet the children I love so dearly...and have fallen in love with them as well. Morgan, Kim, and Gina...thanks for putting your pics on Facebook and sharing their stories with others.

• So far, I don't care much for the updated version of iMovie. Trying to make a video of the kids. It's only taken 4 months.

• I have been invited to watch American Idol tomorrow night. Apparently, it's shown on some channel here a day later than in the states. I have never been into AI, but it's been months since I have watched tv. So I'm thinking I will be there.

• Tomorrow marks the halfway point. Five months since I left the states. Hard to believe.

• It's been good. It's been a challenge. And on the hard days, I see the kids and am reminded of why I am here. They are worth it.

Aww! I wish we would have known about the chocolate place!!! Street 240 may be my favorite street and I haven't even been there! Haha. I can't stop talking about the kids and most likely will have no friends bc they will be sick of hearing about my adventure! I miss the kids so much! I must return! You are amazing for being over there...especially after seeing what kind of city you are in! If you would like...I could honk the horn down the streets here in the U.S. at crazy hours...just for you and to give the Americans a Cambodian experience? Also...I may be taking that "God bless you" that Savorn wrote in Khmer for me...and getting it as a tattoo! Eeeeek!

Thanks for the random thoughts. I have a better idea of what you deal with on a regular basis and the wonderful things that remind you why you are there. I miss you and the kids so much and wish we have stayed longer. It was such an amazing experience that I still am having problems putting it into words. I am really glad you are getting some time away with the girls here soon. I miss you a ton already and can't wait to see your beautiful face soon. Thanks for sharing your life with me. Love YOU!
